Ocule Founder, Kirt Eftekhar has teamed up with Richard Abramowitz, to launch a new specialized U.S. theatrical distribution company, Area23a. The company was founded on the concept of “value added cinema,” and has initiated its program of “movievents” with national releases of “Soundtrack for a Revolution”, the Oscar shortlisted documentary explores the Civil Rights Movement through its powerful music; the “movievent” tour featured prominent Civil Rights activists and top musicians, “The Mighty Uke,” a feature-length documentary about the evolution of the ukulele, screenings of which have been followed by live performances by uke virtuoso James Hill, and “Best Worst Movie,” which documents the making of, and fall-out from, TROLL 2, widely considered among the worst movies ever made. Engagements of “Best Worst Movie” have been preceded by TROLL 2 screenings and costume parties.
The company is currently releasing CERTIFIABLY JONATHAN, a surreal comedy about comedy legend, Jonathan Winters, who is on a quest to get his artistic mojo back with the help of Sarah Silverman, Howie Mandel, Nora Dunn, Ryan Stiles, Tim Conway, Robert Klein, Kevin Dunn, Gary Owens, Jimmy Kimmel and the Arquettes.
